ZAMFACTOR Ltd was established in 1995. Listed below, however, are also relevant projects done by Bert Witkamp, company director, before the company was formed. (Gijs)bert Witkamp was or is involved in art, education, anthropology, international development co-operation, project management, consulting, and internet publication. Presently he mostly is involved in oil painting and internet publication.
Nchimunya Mweemba Witkamp had a textile workshop where batiks and tie & dyes were made and currently is a primary school teacher.
1. ART 1.1 ART WORK: Graphics (prints and drawings), oil painting, murals (painting and mosaic), designing of batik stamps. 1.2 ART TECHNOLOGY: Introduction of ethysilicate 40 in 1974 as a binder in mural painting in the Netherlands; development of ceramic mosaic tiles made of Zambian raw materials in 1976-77; experimental usage of local materials in art and art education in Zambia. Part time lecturer in technology of art at the Evelyn Hone College, Lusaka, Zambia 1976 - 1980. Development of ceramic mosaic technology based on Zambian clays and minerals, resulting in a 54 m2 mosaic mural at Society House, Cairo Road, Lusaka. 1.3. ART RESEARCH: On makishi of North Western Province of Zambia (1986-88), modern art in Lusaka (1984), and crafts development in Southern Province (1977). The front cover of the makishi research is a lino cut by the author. 2. CONSULTING AND OTHER SERVICES 2.1 Business plans, development income generating activities for NGO's, feasibility studies, project managent and management support. Such as the feasibility study for the Mumwa Crafts Association (1998); the Business Plan for the Choma Museum and Crafts Centre (1999), Study on the permanent exhibition of the Lusaka National Museum (2007) and the Plan for the Lechwe Trust Art Gallery (2017). 2.2 Organisation events (exhibitions, workshops); such as Income generation for NGO's (2005) with the Belgium development organisation Volens. 2.3 Marketing and export development (crafts) including e-commerce and website publication. With Choma Museum and Crafts Centre Trust Ltd. from 1998-2008. 2.4 Preparing and organising exhibitions in co-operation with the Choma Museum from November 2012 to December 2013. The main exhibition was, "Graphic Art of Zambia," opened officially August 21st, 2013, by professor Nkandu Luo, at the time minister of Chiefly Affairs of the Government of Zambia. Work included selecting and collecting art work, preparing the information leaflet and laying out the exhibition space. 2.5 Promoting the Choma Museum Art Gallery in 2012-13 by: 1. Electronic newsletter. 2. Website development: website for the Choma Museum Art Gallery 2.6 Operational plan of the Art Gallery of the Lechwe Trust. 2017. The Gallery successfully opened 6 December 2018. 3. MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT CO-OPERATION 3.1 Founding director of what now is the Choma Museum and Crafts Centre Trust Ltd. (CMCC) during 1988 - 1997, assigned as development expert to what was initiated as a development project by the Netherlands development organisation SNV and funded by the Netherlands government (DGIS). 3.2 Deployed from 2004 to 2008 by the Belgian development organisation Volens to support income generating activities by the CMCC for artisans. 4. BATIK AND TIE & DYE Nchimunya's department. We possibly have the largest collection of batik stamps in Zambia. Designed by Estnart Han'goma Mweemba and Bert Witkamp, and carved by Patrick Mweemba. Nchimunya makes cloth and finished products of which fringed wrappers / tablecloth are the most popular. |
